Cemetery & Parks Meeting
February 13, 2017

The meeting was opened at 7:05PM present were John Barrett, Tubby Boucher, Ray Boyes,  Roger Rapoza, Drew Funk and Pam Haman.

Appointments: Nicholas McCool candidate for part time seasonal laborer. Commissioners asked about prior landscaping/grounds keeping experience. Nicholas stated that he has approximately 4 years of experience has used excavator.  Commissioners explained that job was various hours weekly depending on needs of department and weather.  Position pays $11.80 per wage matrix with a 6 months probationary period. John Barrett made a motion “hire Nicholas McCool as part time seasonal laborer” all were in favor motion carried.

Minutes: John moved to approve the minutes from the 1/25/17 meeting with the spelling correction.  All were in favor motion carried.

Bills: Were reviewed and approved.
Deeds: None

Correspondence:  Letter was received from the Elm Institute (Liberty) Commissioners reviewed the letter for planting options and prices. Commissioners also discussed other types of trees such as spruces and potential planting locations in the common.

Discuss: Riverside expansion will continue in the spring.  Roger is working Paul Rafuse from the Water Dept. to install service to that area of the cemetery at a minimal cost.
Flag pole location was also discussed potential area would be towards the back.  Columbarium’s could be located on the right side.
John was approached by Dana King about purchasing lots in the new section. Roger stated that rows will be laid out and that he would like to do a single row of foundations this would keep rows straight and stones wouldn’t shift. The Commissioners agreed that Mr. King can be listed to get first row in Riverside when laid out.

The department will meet with the Board of Selectmen on 2/14/17 at 6:30PM to review budget for FY18.  

Superintendents Report:  Possible scout project would be designing and building food court area in back of common.  This would help keep area level and solve the problem of wear and tear on the grass.
Roger reminded the commissioners that flag issue still has not been resolved.  Tubby and other members of the flag committee will need to work with Town Administer resolving this.

Next meeting is scheduled for 3/13/17 at 7PM.
